Custom Optical Windows

Polycarbonate plastics of the CR-39 type offer a convenient alternative to glass and other plastics for certain optical components such as viewing windows. The material is light, highly resistant to abrasion and a wide range of chemicals, and has excellent optical transmission extending into the UV:

The transmission curve is the average obtained from eight samples from different batches of 1.5mm material. The measurements were made on a Unicam UV2 spectrometer against an air reference, and the readings have not been corrected for Fresnel reflection losses, which are about 4% at each surface.

TASL can supply viewing windows cut to your specification in sizes up to 28cm x 30cm and in nominal thickness 1.5mm. Within the maximum size envelope, any shape can be cut and, if required, drilled. Please contact us to discuss your requirements.
